Baptist Health South Florida and Lifepoint Rehabilitation Begin Construction on State-of-the-Art Rehabilitation Hospital in South Miami

South Miami, FL - July 23, 2024 - Baptist Health South Florida, the largest not-for-profit healthcare organization in the region, is proud to announce they will begin construction of the new Baptist Health Rehabilitation Hospital, a joint venture with Lifepoint Rehabilitation, a business unit of Lifepoint Health. This cutting-edge facility represents Baptist Health's commitment to providing high-quality, accessible care to patients and the community.

Located across from Baptist Health South Miami Hospital, the Baptist Health Rehabilitation Hospital at 7160 SW 62 Ave., South Miami, will offer specialized treatment for individuals with brain or spinal cord injuries, as well as select cardiac, oncology, orthopedic and stroke patients.

"Our partnership with Lifepoint Rehabilitation underscores our dedication to expanding healthcare services and improving outcomes for patients," said Ronald Tolchin, D.O., Chair of Nonsurgical Spine Care and Rehabilitation, and Kalman Bass Endowed Chair in Pain and Rehabilitative Medicine at Baptist Health Miami Neuroscience Institute. "This new rehabilitation hospital will enhance our ability to provide comprehensive care as part of a continuum to treat individuals recovering from complex injuries or illnesses.”

The three-story, 100,000-square-foot facility will feature 62 private inpatient rooms, with the capacity to open an additional 30 private rooms. The building will also include a three-story parking garage with capacity for 179 parking spaces to ensure convenient access for patients and visitors.

Designed with patient comfort and recovery in mind, the freestanding Baptist Health Rehabilitation Hospital will boast adaptive units, multidisciplinary therapy gyms equipped with the latest therapeutic technologies, and outdoor spaces designed to further support patients in their transition back to daily living activities.

Lifepoint Rehabilitation’s experience in providing evidence-driven frameworks for rehabilitation care in dedicated inpatient, acute care settings lend additional operational support to the joint venture partnership. Baptist Health Rehabilitation Hospital is anticipated to create more than 200 new jobs for the region when it opens in 2026. It will join Lifepoint Rehabilitation’s growing network of more than 40 inpatient rehabilitation facilities across the country.
